{"id":30,"date":"2004-07-27T02:37:31","date_gmt":"2004-07-27T06:37:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/xanga.nertzy.com\/index.php\/2004\/07\/27\/"},"modified":"2020-08-08T23:28:37","modified_gmt":"2020-08-08T23:28:37","slug":"30","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/xanga.nertzy.com\/index.php\/2004\/07\/27\/30\/","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p>My luck continues to rise.&nbsp; When I walked home from work today I<br \/>\nfound a Yamaha DX7 synthesizer with 61-key keyboard lying against a<br \/>\ntrash can to be thrown out.&nbsp; I snagged it and left a note behind<br \/>\nin case the person didn&#8217;t mean to throw it out.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/students.olin.edu\/ghutchins\/xanga\/yamaha_dx7.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>However, the state of the keyboard suggests it was ready to be thrown out.&nbsp; For example, the power cable has come loose.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/students.olin.edu\/ghutchins\/xanga\/dx7_broken_wire.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>I am an electrical engineer, so this does not faze me in the<br \/>\nslightest.&nbsp; Soon I will grab a soldering iron and make it work to<br \/>\nthe best of my abilities.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/students.olin.edu\/ghutchins\/xanga\/dx7_front.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>The Yamaha DX7 was a popular synthesizer of the 1980s, and make a lot<br \/>\nof the defining sounds of eighties music.&nbsp; Its quality isn&#8217;t<br \/>\nwonderful, from what I&#8217;ve heard, but it&#8217;s a synthesizer nonetheless and<br \/>\nI&#8217;m sure I can find good uses for it, especially as a keyboard<br \/>\ncontroller for my computer music setup.<\/p>\n<p>After I had spent hours waiting in the rain to get tickets to the<br \/>\nShakespeare in the Park show in Central Park, and after the rain fully<br \/>\ncleared up, they cancelled the show.&nbsp; However, before I got in<br \/>\nline for standby tickets, I did manage to snap some pictures of a<br \/>\ncompletely burnt car on the side of the road.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/students.olin.edu\/ghutchins\/xanga\/burned_car_side.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>The flames completely destroyed the interior, leaving a metallic shell.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/students.olin.edu\/ghutchins\/xanga\/burned_car_rear.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Today I ate dinner outside on patio seating at Max SoHa, a most<br \/>\nwonderful Italian restaurant less than a block from my apartment.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/students.olin.edu\/ghutchins\/xanga\/max_soha.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>The food is excellent and the atmosphere very comfortable and familial.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;SoHa&#8221; stands for &#8220;South of Harlem,&#8221; and we&#8217;ve similary named our startup synthesizer software company <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sohasound.com\" target=\"_new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SoHa Sound Design<\/a>,<br \/>\nin reference to where the development actually took place.&nbsp; We&#8217;re<br \/>\nhoping to finish up a release candidate of the final synthesizer by the<br \/>\ntime I leave New York on August 11, and have a final 1.0 version ready<br \/>\nfor sale a few weeks thereafter.<\/p>\n<p>Cagle and her friend come up to visit me for a few days on Wednesday<br \/>\nand Dan comes up on Saturday, so my week should be filled with plenty<br \/>\nof excitement.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>My luck continues to rise.&nbsp; When I walked home from work today I found a Yamaha DX7 synthesizer with 61-key keyboard lying against a trash can to be thrown out.&nbsp; I snagged it and left a note behind in case the person didn&#8217;t mean to throw it out.
