{"id":35,"date":"2004-07-10T03:17:52","date_gmt":"2004-07-10T07:17:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/xanga.nertzy.com\/index.php\/2004\/07\/10\/"},"modified":"2020-08-08T23:28:37","modified_gmt":"2020-08-08T23:28:37","slug":"35","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/xanga.nertzy.com\/index.php\/2004\/07\/10\/35\/","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hello everyone.&nbsp; Today I didn&#8217;t take any pictures, so I will pull some from my summer archives.<\/p>\n<p>On June 26, 2004, several other Olin students and I toured the city.&nbsp; I<br \/>\nsnapped this picture of the Empire State Building while laying down on<br \/>\nthe sidewalk:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/students.olin.edu\/ghutchins\/xanga\/empire_state_bldg.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>On July 4, 2003, I found this abandoned building or parking garage in Brooklyn:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/students.olin.edu\/ghutchins\/xanga\/bklyn_bldg.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>The weather was beautful today when I emerged from my apartment for the<br \/>\nfirst time at about 8:00 to eat Subway sandwiches at Grant&#8217;s<br \/>\nTomb.&nbsp; On the way to Subway, I passed the General Grant Houses,<br \/>\nwhich this picture from July 8, 2004, showcase in front of the elevated<br \/>\nsubway train just south of 125th Street and Brodway:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/students.olin.edu\/ghutchins\/xanga\/general_grant_houses.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Tucker and I cook many of our meals, including this Thai chicken dish<br \/>\nthat Mara from downstairs helped us out with on June 16, 2004:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/students.olin.edu\/ghutchins\/xanga\/thai_chicken.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Hopefully once the burners start burning again we will make some more<br \/>\nmeals, but the cooking has slowed down considerably in recent weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Today I thought about how I don&#8217;t watch much television and how many of<br \/>\nmy hobbies involve creating things.&nbsp; I considered how much more<br \/>\nfulfilling I find life when I have something concrete to reflect on<br \/>\nfrom my past.<\/p>\n<p>My friend Jon often complains that he has trouble finding things to do<br \/>\nwhich don&#8217;t involve &#8220;consuming&#8221;, be it food or media or just generally<br \/>\nspending money on useless things.&nbsp; He genuinely means what he&#8217;s<br \/>\nsaying, but more often than not he brings the concept up in a ploy to<br \/>\nget the gang to do something we never would have otherwise, from<br \/>\ninviting fifty people to a marshmallow roast in his backyard to Pong<br \/>\ntournaments (with commentary from the announcer, of course) to a<br \/>\nrousing game of croquet right before I left for New York City.<\/p>\n<p>So my charge unto you the reader is:&nbsp; go do something you haven&#8217;t<br \/>\ndone before.&nbsp; Make a kite and fly it.&nbsp; Go shopping for<br \/>\nantiques.&nbsp; See if bread really does land on the floor butter side<br \/>\ndown every time.&nbsp; Plant some flowers.<\/p>\n<p>And please tell me what you did so that I can have more ideas.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hello everyone.&nbsp; Today I didn&#8217;t take any pictures, so I will pull some from my summer archives.
