{"id":36,"date":"2004-07-09T01:29:11","date_gmt":"2004-07-09T05:29:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/xanga.nertzy.com\/index.php\/2004\/07\/09\/"},"modified":"2020-08-08T23:28:38","modified_gmt":"2020-08-08T23:28:38","slug":"36","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/xanga.nertzy.com\/index.php\/2004\/07\/09\/36\/","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To appease all of my kitchen ceiling&#8217;s fans, presenting the final installment of the Kitchen Ceiling Chronicles:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/students.olin.edu\/ghutchins\/xanga\/fixed_ceiling.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>She&#8217;s a beauty.&nbsp; The kitchen has returned to normal, except that<br \/>\nnow the gas range and stove do not light themselves.&nbsp; Therefore,<br \/>\nwe our celebratory tuna sandwiches went uncooked.&nbsp; However, all<br \/>\nwas not lost.&nbsp; I discovered the new entry to our kitchen today, a<br \/>\nmirror nailed to a cabinet door:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/students.olin.edu\/ghutchins\/xanga\/kitchen_mirror.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>This mirror reflects a style found throughout the apartment.<\/p>\n<p>Today I did laundry at B. Bubbles, Inc.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/students.olin.edu\/ghutchins\/xanga\/b.bubbles.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>While there, I snapped a picture of a man lugging far more cans down<br \/>\nthe street than I could ever hope for, a commonplace occurence in a big<br \/>\ncity such as this one.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/students.olin.edu\/ghutchins\/xanga\/guy_with_cans.jpg\"><\/p>\n<p>Today I finished a book I had borrowed from Tucker called <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">The Evolution of Useful Things: How everyday artifacts\u2014from forks and pins to paper clips and zippers\u2014came to be as they are<\/span>.&nbsp; I&#8217;ve finished two books so far this summer.&nbsp; The first was <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">The Crying of Lot 49<\/span><br \/>\nby Thomas Pynchon, which I found very captiving, despite its immensely<br \/>\nobscure references and themes.&nbsp; One of my life goals is to finish<br \/>\nPynchon&#8217;s <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Gravity&#8217;s Rainbow<\/span>,<br \/>\na most dense and unfriendly book which introduces ridiculous characters<br \/>\nnonstop and shoots around from the history of plastic to political<br \/>\ntheory to differential equations to German folk songs often within one<br \/>\nsentence.<\/p>\n<p>But for now, the next book on my list is the Olin College summer reading, <span style=\"font-style: italic;\">Phantoms in the Brain<\/span>,<br \/>\nby V.S.
